Author Guidelines

1. General Requirements

The Indonesian Journal of Halal (IJH) publishes original research articles and review articles covering topics within the scope of halal studies. Submitted manuscripts must be relevant to the journal's aims and scope and must not have been previously published or be under consideration for publication in another journal.

Manuscripts must be prepared using the IJH article template in a two-column format and submitted through the journal's online submission system. Authors are required to follow the prescribed manuscript format and ensure that their submissions comply with the journal's author guidelines. The official article template, provided in Microsoft Word format, can be downloaded from the link provided on the journal's website.

2. Article Submission

Authors must submit manuscripts written in either Indonesian or English through the IJH online submission system. During the submission process, authors may be required to upload the following supporting documents:

1. Cover Letter: A cover letter introducing the manuscript, explaining its relevance to the scope of IJH, and confirming that the manuscript is original and not under consideration for publication elsewhere.
2. List of Potential Reviewers: A list of two proposed reviewers with relevant expertise in the subject area of the manuscript. The proposed reviewers should be independent of the authors and free from any conflicts of interest. The final selection of reviewers remains at the discretion of the editor.

All manuscripts must be prepared in accordance with the journal's official template before submission.

3. Manuscript Preparation Guidelines

3.1. Abstract

The abstract must be written in either Indonesian or English and must not exceed 300 words. It should provide a concise and informative summary of the study, including the research background, objectives, methods, principal findings, and conclusions. The abstract should clearly communicate the significance and main contributions of the research.

3.2. Tables and Figures

Tables and figures must be numbered consecutively in the order in which they are first cited in the manuscript. Each table must have a concise and informative title placed above the table, while each figure must have a caption placed below the figure.

Figures must be of sufficient resolution and quality to ensure readability in the published article. The maximum figure size is 15 × 20 cm. Photographs and other image-based illustrations must be of high quality and suitable for publication. Authors must ensure that all tables and figures are clearly labeled and appropriately referenced in the manuscript.

3.3. In-Text Citations

References must be cited in the text using the author–date system. The surname of the first author and the year of publication must be provided in parentheses. For works with more than two authors, the first author's surname should be followed by et al. and the year of publication.

Examples:

• Single author: (Smith, 2020)
• Two authors: (Smith and Jones, 2021)
• Three or more authors: (Ohara et al., 1996)

All sources cited in the manuscript must be included in the reference list, and every entry in the reference list must be cited in the text.

3.4. References

The reference list must follow the Harvard referencing style and be arranged alphabetically by the surname of the first author. References must not be numbered. A single line space (10 pt) should be maintained between consecutive references, in accordance with the journal template.

Authors are encouraged to use primary and relevant scholarly sources, including peer-reviewed journal articles, conference proceedings, books, theses, dissertations, and patents, where appropriate.

The following examples illustrate the required reference formats.

Authors must ensure that all bibliographic information is complete and accurate, including author names, publication years, article or chapter titles, journal names, volume and issue numbers, page ranges, and DOI or other persistent identifiers where available.

4. Compliance with the Author Guidelines

Authors are responsible for ensuring that their manuscripts comply with all IJH author guidelines before submission. Manuscripts that do not follow the prescribed format or fail to meet the journal's submission requirements may be returned to the authors for revision before entering the peer-review process.

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

1. The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
2. The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.
3. The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
4. The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
