Author Guidelines

Author Guidelines

 

Introduction

These guidelines provide instructions for authors who wish to submit manuscripts to JIIP: Jurnal Ilmiah Ilmu Pemerintahan. Authors are expected to follow the journal's policies regarding manuscript preparation, structure, citation practices, and reference formatting.

JIIP publishes original research articles and critical scholarly analyses in the fields of governance, politics, public policy, democracy, state-society relations, and related areas of political and governmental studies. The journal welcomes contributions that address issues in Indonesia, Southeast Asia, and comparative international contexts.

JIIP accepts manuscripts in both Indonesian and English. As part of the journal’s internationalization strategy, authors are strongly encouraged to submit manuscripts in English to enhance the global visibility and accessibility of their research.

 

A. Manuscript Requirements

1.     Manuscripts may be based on original empirical research, theoretical studies, literature reviews, or critical policy analyses.

2.     Manuscripts should be submitted in either Indonesian or English. The journal particularly encourages submissions in English.

3.     The manuscript should consist of the following components:

  • Title
  • Author(s) and Affiliation(s)
  • Abstract and Keywords
  • Introduction
  • Findings and Discussion
  • Conclusion
  • Acknowledgements (if applicable)
  • Funding Information (if applicable)
  • References
  • Endnotes (if applicable)

4.     Manuscripts should be prepared in Microsoft Word format (.docx or .rtf) and contain approximately 4,000–8,000 words, including references.

5.     All submissions must be made through the journal’s online submission system.

6.     Authors are strongly encouraged to use the official manuscript template available on the journal website.

7.     Authors are encouraged to provide their ORCID iD during submission.

8.     Any use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools in the preparation of the manuscript must be disclosed. AI tools may assist with language editing or formatting but cannot be listed as authors.

 

B. Manuscript Structure

Title

The title should be concise, informative, and not exceed 15 words. It should accurately reflect the main focus of the manuscript.

Author Information

Authors' names should be written without academic titles. Each author's institutional affiliation and email address should be clearly stated.

Abstract and Keywords

The abstract should be written in English and contain approximately 150–250 words. It should clearly describe:

  • Research objectives
  • Theoretical or analytical framework
  • Research methods
  • Key findings
  • Main conclusions

Authors should provide 3–5 keywords immediately following the abstract.

Introduction

The introduction should include:

  • Background of the study
  • Literature review and state of the art
  • Research gap
  • Research objectives
  • Theoretical framework
  • Research methodology

Findings and Discussion

This section should present and critically discuss the research findings. Authors are encouraged to organize the discussion into relevant subsections. The analysis should demonstrate a clear connection between empirical findings, theoretical arguments, and existing scholarship.

Conclusion

The conclusion should summarize the main contributions of the study without merely repeating the findings. Authors may include recommendations or policy implications where appropriate.

Acknowledgements

Authors may acknowledge individuals, institutions, or organizations that contributed to the research or manuscript preparation.

Funding Statement

Authors should clearly identify funding sources. If the research did not receive external funding, the following statement may be used:

"This research received no specific grant from any funding agency in the public, commercial, or not-for-profit sectors."

Ethical Considerations

For research involving human participants, authors should ensure compliance with ethical standards, informed consent procedures, and confidentiality requirements. Information about participants should be presented in a manner that protects privacy when necessary.

 

C. Citation Policy

JIIP follows the latest edition of the American Psychological Association (APA) citation style.

Authors are encouraged to:

  • Use recent and relevant scholarly references.
  • Engage with international and peer-reviewed literature.
  • Utilize reference management software such as Zotero, Mendeley, or EndNote.

All sources cited in the text must appear in the reference list, and all references listed must be cited in the manuscript.

 

D. References

References should follow the latest APA Style guidelines and be arranged alphabetically.

Authors are encouraged to:

  • Include recent scholarly publications, particularly from the last ten years.
  • Engage with relevant international literature.
  • Cite peer-reviewed journal articles whenever possible.
  • Use DOI information where available.

The editorial team reserves the right to request revisions related to language quality, formatting, referencing style, and compliance with journal standards before publication.

 

 

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  1. The manuscript has not been previously published in any other journal and is not currently under consideration by another journal.

  2. The file must be submitted in Microsoft Word document format (DOCX or RTF).

  3. Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.

  4. The manuscript must be written in single spacing, using Abadi font size 12. All illustrations, figures, and tables must be placed within the text at the appropriate positions (not at the end). The length of the manuscript should be between 4,000–8,000 words, including references.

  5. The manuscript must follow the journal’s style and reference system as outlined in the Author Guidelines.

  6. If the manuscript is submitted to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions for Ensuring a Blind Review must be followed.

 

Copyright Notice

By submitting a manuscript and upon its acceptance for publication, the author acknowledges that the copyright of the article will be transferred to Jurnal Ilmiah Ilmu Pemerintahan and the Undergraduate Program (S1) in Government Studies, Department of Politics and Government, Universitas Diponegoro, as the publisher of the journal.

This copyright includes the right to reproduce and distribute the article in all forms and media, including reprints, photographs, microfilms, and other similar reproductions, as well as translations.

Jurnal Ilmiah Ilmu Pemerintahan and the Undergraduate Program (S1) in Government Studies, Department of Politics and Government, Universitas Diponegoro, along with the editors, make every effort to ensure that no incorrect or misleading data, opinions, or statements are published in the journal. However, the content of articles and advertisements published in the journal remains the sole and exclusive responsibility of the respective authors and advertisers.
