JIIP: Jurnal Ilmiah Ilmu Pemerintahan was first published in 2015 by the Department of Government Studies, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Diponegoro University. The journal published Volume 1 Number 1 in March 2015 with ten articles and Volume 1 Number 2 in September 2015 with nine articles.
In 2016, the journal continued its publication through Volume 2 Number 1 and Volume 2 Number 2, each consisting of six articles. However, publication activities were suspended throughout 2017, resulting in a one-year hiatus.
Publication resumed in 2018 with the release of Volume 3 Number 1. This period marked a significant restructuring of the journal through the appointment of a new editorial team under the leadership of Hendra Try Ardianto as Editor-in-Chief. Several improvements were introduced, including revised author guidelines, updated citation and reference standards, redesign of article layouts, and the establishment of the journal's Google Scholar profile.
The publication of Volume 3 Number 2 was completed in January 2019. Throughout 2019, the journal gradually improved its editorial management and publication timeliness. Volume 4 Number 2, published in September 2019, marked the first issue processed entirely through a regular peer-review mechanism without relying on the quick-submit method. During this period, the journal also expanded its visibility through inclusion in several indexing services, including Garuda, Dimensions, and BASE.
A major milestone was achieved in 2020 when JIIP obtained accreditation in the Indonesian Science and Technology Index (SINTA) at Level 3. Since then, the journal has maintained regular publication and continued strengthening its editorial and peer-review processes.
Editorial leadership changed in 2021 when Neny Marlina succeeded Hendra Try Ardianto as Editor-in-Chief. Under her leadership, the journal consolidated its publication management and sustained its position as a national scholarly journal in political and governmental studies.
Beginning in 2026, JIIP entered a new stage of development under the leadership of Nuruddin Al Akbar as Editor-in-Chief. As part of its quality improvement strategy, the journal revised its publication schedule from March and September to April and October. The journal also adopted a bilingual publication policy, accepting manuscripts in both Indonesian and English while encouraging authors to submit manuscripts in English.
Since June 2026, JIIP has implemented an internationalization strategy aimed at increasing the participation of international authors, editors, and reviewers, strengthening international scholarly collaboration, and enhancing the global visibility of the journal.
Starting from Volume 11 Number 1 (2026), JIIP introduced a Book Review section to facilitate scholarly engagement with contemporary intellectual debates and recent academic publications. Reviews of books published in Indonesian or English are accepted, while submissions in English are particularly encouraged to broaden international readership and academic impact.
