Peer Review Process / Policy

All articles submitted to this journal must comply with the established focus and scope, as well as the writing guidelines set by the journal. Manuscripts that do not conform to these requirements will be returned directly by the editor. In addition, all submitted manuscripts must be free from plagiarism. Therefore, authors are strongly advised to use plagiarism detection software to check the similarity level prior to submission to the OJS. Once the article is submitted through OJS, the editor will assess the similarity level using Turnitin. The editor will consider the similarity results in deciding whether the manuscript will proceed to the review stage or be returned to the author.

If the editor decides to proceed with the review process, the manuscript will be sent to reviewers using a single-blind review system. This means that the identities of the authors are concealed from the reviewers, and the authors do not know the identities of the reviewers. Overall, the review process can be illustrated in the diagram below:

This section outlines the ethical standards expected from all parties involved in the publication process, including authors, the editor-in-chief, editorial board members, peer reviewers, and the publisher. This statement is based on the COPE Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors.

 A. Ethical Guidelines for Journal Publication

The publication of articles in this journal involves a peer-review process, contributing to the development of a coherent and respected body of knowledge. It reflects the quality of the authors’ work and their affiliated institutions. Peer review represents the application of the scientific method. Therefore, ethical standards must be agreed upon by all parties involved in the publication process, including authors, editors, reviewers, publishers, and the wider community.

The publisher, namely the Undergraduate Program of the Department of Politics and Government, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Diponegoro, takes full responsibility for all stages of publication. We are committed to ensuring that advertisements, reprints, or other commercial revenues do not influence editorial decisions. Furthermore, the publisher and editorial board will assist in communication with other journals and/or publishers when necessary.

The ethical principles include the following:

1. Publication Decisions

The editorial team is responsible for deciding which submitted articles should be published. The validity of the work and its significance for researchers and readers must guide these decisions. Editors are guided by editorial board policies and applicable legal requirements such as defamation, copyright infringement, and plagiarism. Editors may consult with other editors or reviewers in making decisions.

2. Fairness

Editors must evaluate manuscripts based solely on their intellectual content, without regard to race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnicity, nationality, or political philosophy of the authors.

3. Confidentiality

Editors and editorial staff must not disclose any information about submitted manuscripts to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, potential reviewers, other editorial advisers, and the publisher.

4. Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest

Unpublished materials disclosed in a submitted manuscript must not be used in an editor’s own research without the express written consent of the author.

 B. Duties of Reviewers

1. Contribution to Editorial Decisions

Reviewers assist editors in making editorial decisions and may also help authors improve the quality of their manuscripts through editorial communication.

2. Promptness

Any invited reviewer who feels unqualified to review the manuscript or unable to complete the review in a timely manner should notify the editor and withdraw from the review process.

3. Confidentiality

Manuscripts received for review must be treated as confidential documents and must not be shared or discussed with others except as authorized by the editor.

4. Standards of Objectivity

Reviews should be conducted objectively. Personal criticism of the author is inappropriate. Reviewers should express their views clearly and support them with sound arguments.

5. Acknowledgment of Sources

Reviewers should identify relevant published work that has not been cited by the authors. Any statement that has been previously reported should be accompanied by appropriate citation. Reviewers should also inform the editor of any substantial similarity or overlap with other known works.

6. Confidentiality and Conflict of Interest

Privileged information or ideas obtained through peer review must be kept confidential and not used for personal advantage. Reviewers should not review manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest resulting from competitive, collaborative, or other relationships with any of the authors or institutions.

 C. Duties of Authors

1. Reporting Standards

Authors must present an accurate account of the research conducted, including objectives and significance. Data must be reported accurately. The manuscript should contain sufficient detail and references to allow replication. Fraudulent or knowingly inaccurate statements are unethical and unacceptable.

2. Data Access and Retention

Authors may be asked to provide raw data for editorial review and should be prepared to provide public access where possible, in accordance with the ALPSP-STM statement. Authors must retain such data for a reasonable period after publication.

3. Originality and Plagiarism

Authors must ensure that their work is entirely original. If the work or words of others are used, they must be properly cited.

4. Multiple, Redundant, or Concurrent Publication

Authors should not publish the same research in more than one journal or primary publication. Submitting the same manuscript to multiple journals simultaneously is unethical and unacceptable.

5. Acknowledgment of Sources

Proper acknowledgment of the work of others must always be given. Authors should cite influential publications relevant to their research.

6. Authorship of the Paper

Authorship should be limited to those who have made significant contributions to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the study. All contributors should be listed as co-authors. Others who contributed should be acknowledged. The corresponding author must ensure that all co-authors have approved the final version and agreed to submission.

7. Disclosure of Financial Support and Conflicts of Interest

All authors must disclose any financial or other conflicts of interest that could influence the results or interpretation of their manuscript. All sources of financial support must be disclosed.

8. Fundamental Errors in Published Works

If an author discovers a significant error in their published work, they must promptly notify the editor or publisher and cooperate in retracting or correcting the article.
