Call for Papers Volume 11, Number 2 (October 2026) Democracy and Welfare in Indonesia: Local Challenges, Global Debates

Democracy and Welfare in Indonesia

The relationship between democracy and welfare has become one of the most important issues in contemporary governance. Across the world, governments are increasingly expected to deliver social protection, reduce inequality, and promote human development while maintaining democratic accountability and public trust. These developments raise fundamental questions regarding the role of the state, the future of welfare provision, and the relationship between social policy, political legitimacy, and democratic governance.

In Indonesia, these debates have gained renewed significance through the expansion of welfare programs, changing patterns of political participation, and the growing influence of digital technologies in public and political life. At the same time, challenges such as inequality, clientelism, disinformation, digital surveillance, platform governance, and the use of artificial intelligence continue to reshape democratic practices and public policy.

For Volume 11, Number 2 (2026), JIIP: Jurnal Ilmiah Ilmu Pemerintahan invites scholars, researchers, policymakers, and practitioners to submit original manuscripts that critically engage with issues of democracy, welfare, governance, and public affairs. While this special issue is inspired by contemporary developments in Indonesia, contributions from other countries, comparative perspectives, and broader theoretical discussions are equally welcome.

The journal welcomes theoretical, empirical, methodological, comparative, and case-study-based contributions addressing topics related to democracy, welfare, public policy, governance, political participation, social justice, digital politics, state-society relations, and other contemporary political and governmental issues.

As part of the journal’s internationalization initiative, authors are strongly encouraged to submit manuscripts in English.
