Abstract

Penelitian tentang lingkungan pengendapan dan karakteristik material organik pada serpih dan batubara yang terdapat pada daerah Air Putih, Kota Samarinda sangat penting untuk dikaji sebagai indikator kemampuan suatu batuan sedimen untuk menghasilkan hidrokarbon. Daerah penelitian termasuk kedalam Formasi Balikpapan yang kaya bahan organik. Stratigrafi batuan sedimen yang dijumpai daerah penelitian merupakan asosiasi fasies prodelta shales yang prograding menjadi delta front mouth bar. Nilai TOC pada percontoh batuan yang terdapat pada daerah penelitian berkisar 0,62 % - 64,39 % yang terdiri atas batulanau, serpih, dan batubara. Material organik pada Daerah Air Putih sebagian besar terendapkan di lingkungan laut dan beberapa sampel terendapakan pada lingkungan air tawar dalam kondisi reduksi. Komposisi maseral batubara pada sampel SMC daerah Air Putih terdiri atas huminit 73%, liptinit 26% dan inertinit 1% sedangkan serpih terdiri atas vitrinit 55%, liptinit 43% dan inertinit 2%. Akumulasi material organik pada daerah Air Putih pada umumnya berasosiasi dengan serpih hitam dan batubara pada lingkungan delta plain umumnya berupa material organik asal darat.
