Abstract

Moringa oleifera Lam., known for its various medicinal properties. Moringa oleifera has been shown to have multiple health benefits, including antitumor, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antimicrobial effects. This study aims to analyze the effect of Moringa oleifera leaf extract as an adjuvant therapy on TGF-β levels in leprosy ulcer patients. This experimental study employed a pre- and post-randomized single-blinded controlled trial design. The study compared an intervention group, which received adjuvant therapy with Moringa oleifera leaf extract (2 grams/day), with a control group that received standard therapy only. The study included leprosy patients with ulcers at Donorejo Hospital, Jepara. Phytochemical analysis of Moringa oleifera extract indicated the presence of flavonoids, tannins, and saponins. The TGF-β serum levels were measured before and after the intervention. Statistical analysis using the Wilcoxon test showed no significant difference in TGF-β serum levels before and after administration of Moringa oleifera extract (p>0.05). Similarly, the Mann-Whitney test revealed no significant difference in TGF-β serum levels between the treatment and control groups (p>0.05).Topical application of Moringa oleifera extract is suggested to explore its potential benefits in wound healing.
