Abstract

Waste management remains a critical environmental issue in rural areas, including in Rejosari Barat Village, Batang Regency. The local community’s habitual disposal and burning of household waste have led to environmental pollution and health risks. In response to this issue, the 2025 Thematic Community Service Program (KKN-T) by Diponegoro University initiated a revitalization of the village’s waste bank system using participatory and educational approaches. The program involved residents in awareness campaigns, training, and the implementation of a waste-saving system that provided economic value for sorted inorganic waste. The Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) method was applied to foster a sense of ownership among the community. Results showed increased community participation, the formation of a local waste bank management group, and a shift in household waste sorting behavior. The total savings accumulated reached IDR 226,767 from two waste collection events, with paper and glass bottles as the most dominant types. This initiative proved to be an effective tool for community empowerment and holds strong potential for replication and sustainable development in other rural areas
