Abstract

Banyaknya kasus resistensi obat antimikroba mendorong para peneliti untuk mencari dan menemukan senyawa lainnya yang berpotensi dapat diformulasikan menjadi obat antimikroba. Diketahui ekstrak dari beberapa spesies tumbuhan genus Ipomoea menunjukan adanya aktivitas antimikroba. Artikel ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui macam-macam kandungan senyawa metabolit sekunder pada genus Ipomoea yang berfungsi sebagai antimikroba serta mengetahui mekanisme aktivitas antimikrobanya. Pencarian literatur menggunakan database Science Direct dan PubMed dengan kata kunci “Antimicrobial” AND “Activity” AND “Ipomoea”. Data menunjukan bahwa senyawa metabolit sekunder pada genus Ipomoea yang berfungsi sebagai antimikroba yaitu linalool, β-pinene, kumarin, asam p-hidroksibenzoat, serta alkaloid. Genus Ipomoea yang terbukti dapat dijadikan sebagai agen antimikroba yaitu spesies I. pes-caprae, I. procumbens Mart. & Choisy, I. tuba, I. alba, I. bolusiana Schinz, dan I. batatas L. Sedangkan I. carnea Jacq. dan I. crossipes menunjukan hasil yang negatif. Ekstrak herba Ipomoea batatas L. menunjukan aktivitas antimikroba paling kuat terhadap bakteri gram positif maupun bakteri gram negatif berdasarkan metode uji difusi maupun dilusi.
