Author Guidelines

Acta Odontologica Indonesia welcomes submissions of high-quality manuscripts that have not been previously published and are not under consideration by any other journal. The Journal Management reserves the copyright for all published material. Final publication decisions, after the peer review process, are at the discretion of the Editor.

Upon submission, authors will receive confirmation of receipt along with a reference number for all further correspondence.

Authors should read the Submission Preparation Checklist and other formatting guidelines given in this website and in the manuscript template. Unsuitable formatting will not be considered for review.

Manuscript Length & References:

  • Manuscripts should ideally be no longer than 4000 words for original research and 6000 words for Review Articles.

  • The number of references should be limited to 30 where possible.


Types of Publications

All submitted manuscripts must provide sufficient experimental details to allow reproducibility of the results. Manuscripts should not have been previously published or be under consideration elsewhere. The journal accepts the following article types:

  • Original Research

Original research manuscripts reporting scientifically sound experiments and substantial new findings. The quality and impact of the study will be evaluated during peer review.

  • Systematic and Scoping Reviews

Review articles must strictly adhere to the PRISMA guidelines and follow either a scoping review or literature review format. Unstructured reviews will not be accepted. The review type should be clearly indicated in the title.


 

Abstract

  • The abstract should be brief and informative, ranging from 150 to 250 words depending on manuscript length and complexity.

  • It should provide a concise summary of the main text, including the study's purpose, key findings, and major conclusions.

  • Abbreviations and references should not be included in the abstract.

  • The abstract should be written in such a way that it can stand alone if published separately.

 


 Keywords

Authors must provide at least 3 and a maximum of 5 keywords relevant to the manuscript.

 


 Main Manuscript (Text Format & Structure)

The main manuscript should be structured with the following sections:

  1. Introduction – Background and objectives of the study.

  2. Methodology – Detailed methodology for reproducibility.

  3. Results – Presentation of key findings.

  4. Discussion – Interpretation and comparison with previous literature.

  5. Conclusion – Summary of findings addressing the study objectives.

Reference Formatting:

  • Journal titles must be abbreviated according to the Index to Dental Literature and Index Medicus standards.

  • Proprietary names must include the manufacturer and location.

 

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  1. Originality and Suitability

    • The submission has not been previously published and is not under consideration by another journal.
    • The manuscript aligns with the Aims & Scope of the journal.
  2. Manuscript Preparation

    The article can be written in English and/or Bahasa Indonesia.

    Use the Microsoft Word template to prepare your manuscript:

    1. Indonesian template
    2. English template

    Make sure that you have the latest version of the template. The latest template update are on 30/05/2025.

  3. Title Page

    • The title should be clear and concise.
    • Include all contributors' names, complete affiliations, and a valid email address for the corresponding author.

    Author Identification

    • Author name should be written as "Last Name, First Name" and separated with ";". For example: Prabowo, Yoghi Bagus; Keshena, Jatu Rachel.
    • Corresponding author should be marked with "*" and provide their email address.
  4. Abstract
    • The abstract should include background, objectives, methodology, results, and conclusion, along with 3 - 5 keywords.
    • Abstract can be structured or unstructured.
    • The maximum length is 250 words.
    • Indonesian version of an article must submit both English and Indonesian abstracts.
  5. References

    • References must follow the Vancouver style with square brackets[1], [2] in the manuscript.
    • A reference manager (Mendeley, Zotero, EndNote) must be used.
    • Journal names must follow the List of Title Word Abbreviationsor any official journal abbreviation (https://www.issn.org/services/online-services/access-to-the-ltwa/).
    • At least 80% of references must be from the last 10 years.
    • Fundamental methodologies must cite the original sources, even if they are older than 10 years.
  6. Figures and Tables

    • Figures must have a high resolution (≥ 300 dpi) and be included in the text .jpg, .png, or .tiff format with appropriate captions placed above the figure.
    • Tables should follow formatting guidelines and included in the text, with captions placed below the table and abbreviations explained after the caption.
  7. Others

    • Authors must fill the "Conflict of Interest/Konflik Kepentingan", "Funding/Pendanaan", "Authors Contribution/Kontribusi Penulis", and "Acknowledgments/Ucapan Terima Kasih" Section

Authors who publish with this journal agree to the following terms: 

    1. Authors retain copyright and grant the journal right of first publication with the work simultaneously licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution License that allows others to share the work with an acknowledgement of the work's authorship and initial publication in this journal.
    2. Authors are able to enter into separate, additional contractual arrangements for the non-exclusive distribution of the journal's published version of the work (e.g., post it to an institutional repository or publish it in a book), with an acknowledgement of its initial publication in this journal. 
    3. Authors are permitted and encouraged to post their work online (e.g., in institutional repositories or on their website) prior to and during the submission process, as it can lead to productive exchanges, as well as earlier and greater citation of published work (See The Effect of Open Access).
