Abstract
Indonesia's province expansion has both beneficial and detrimental effects on local, national, and even national defense development. This study's primary goal is to examine the national security viewpoint in the proposal to create new provinces in Indonesia, concentrating on the plan to create Madura as a new province in East Java. How does the idea for province expansion change in light of the national defense perspective? What effects will the proposed creation of a new province called Madura have on the military? This mixed-method study examined East Javan statistics data and validated its findings using 16 informants. According to the research, it is hypothesized that enlarging the province of East Java, particularly by enlarging Madura as a province, may help to promote development and boost growth in the area. The costs involved and potential conflicts of interest must be carefully considered. Another result is that, in efforts to maintain a sustainable national defense, provincial expansion can lessen social disputes and hasten the healing process. Using the Madura case study, this study offers a clearer understanding of the national defense perspective when suggesting additional provinces for Indonesia. Future studies might examine the effects of province expansion on national defense and deal with potential conflicts of interest.
