Abstract

Japan is a country with a low Muslim population. Being a country with a Muslim minority is not a barrier for Japan to develop the halal industry. With its potential, efforts to develop the halal industry are not only carried out by the government but non-government actors, one of which is the role of Halal Media Japan. Halal Media Japan is the first media that pioneered the dissemination of information about halal and Muslim friendly. Thus this study aims to describe the role of Halal Media Japan in informing halal in Japan and promoting Japan as a Muslim-friendly country. The method used in this study is descriptive qualitative in which the researcher wants to provide a description, explanation, and validation of the phenomenon being studied. The results of the study show that Halal Media Japan is a media that has a big role in the development of the halal industry in Japan. This is shown by the efforts of Halal Media Japan which continues to intensively inform and promote Japanese-style halal through its Instagram account. Several efforts have been made such as presenting information about recommendations for halal places and food, live Instagram which is routinely held every two weeks, providing communication sheets in English and Japanese, utilizing Japanese Muslim influencers, becoming a media partner for Halal Expo Japan since 2014, and collaborating with large companies in Japan to develop Halal Gourmet Japan apps and Japan Masjid Finder apps.
