Call for Papers - A Special Issue



We have seen the consequence and impact of the COVID-19 outbreak to the people and economy around
the world. Rapid scale of infection through a sudden and invisible process has brought a huge implication
to many different fields not only in the medical front but also the economy, disaster management,
education, public health, and psychology. In such pandemic crises, “resilience” becomes a central theme
which is relevant to integrate rising concerns from these fields for being articulated in the planning and
development of cities where the concentration of human civilization takes place.

This special issue aims to understand how our cities could be more resilience in such pandemic crises and
how our cities as a system could better prepare for the next outbreak. We invite urban planners, social
scientists, economists, researchers and policy makers to contribute in this special issue. Although this
journal focuses on Indonesia, this special issue welcome topics from elsewhere which is also useful to
enrich Indonesian context.  The topics of the paper are and not limited to:

  1. Critical urban issues in the COVID-19 pandemic crises
  2. Different national and city government responses to COVID-19 pandemic
  3. The economy impacts of national lockdown to cities and vice versa
  4. The effectiveness of full vs. partial lockdown at the city level
  5. Urban transportation management in the pandemic periods
  6. COVID-19 and new standard for urban planning and design
  7. Urban informal sectors and business in the mid of pandemics
  8. Community participation and voluntary movement in the city
  9. COVID-19 and the psychology of urban community
  10. Urban governance and innovations in responding to the COVID-19

All manuscripts must be submitted using the Online Submission System on the IJPD website at  

All manuscripts including original research articles, research notes, and book reviews (only selected
authors) are welcome and will be identified in Crossref with a DOI number: 10.14710/ijpd. The IJPD journal
is published by Research Group in Regional Development and Environmental Management, Department of
Urban and Regional Planning, Engineering Faculty, Diponegoro University. There is no submission fee
applied in this journal. In addition, all articles are downloadable for free-of-charge.
