Abstract
Adolescence is a transitional stage between childhood and adulthood characterized by significant physical, emotional, social, and cognitive changes. During this period, exposure to global media and digital information may influence adolescents to engage in unhealthy behaviors, including risky sexual practices. This community service program aimed to increase awareness and knowledge of reproductive health among junior high school students through a microbiology-based educational approach. The program was implemented at Junior High Shcool 1 Ungaran from June to December 2024 and involved students from grades VII to IX. Activities included coordination meetings with school representatives, interactive education on the physiology and microbiology of the reproductive system, and educational media competitions (in poster, video, or leaflet creation). Evaluation was conducted through pre-test and post-test assessments to measure changes in knowledge and attitudes. The results showed a significant improvement in students’ knowledge scores from 70 to 81.4, and positive attitudes toward reproductive health increased from 60% to 87%. Active student participation in educational media competitions demonstrated improved communication skills and the emergence of peer educators among participants. This program aligns with WHO recommendations emphasizing participatory approaches and supportive school environments in adolescent education. The microbiology-based approach proved effective in strengthening students’ scientific understanding and promoting sustainable healthy behaviors.
