Biji karet mempunyai potensi besar sebagai bahan dasar pembuatan biodisel, karena Indonesia merupakan salah satu produsen karet terbesar di dunia. Biji karet terdiri dari 40% minyak yang karakteristiknya telah memenuhi standar SNI sebagai bahan dasar biodisel. Dengan jumlah produksi biji karet sebesar 17908815 ton/tahun, potensi biodisel berbahan dasar minyak biji karet dapat mencapai 5671125 kiloliter/tahun. Konsumsi bahan bakar minyak (BBM) khususnya solar dan diesel di Indonesia mencapai 18,39 juta kiloliter (KL) pertahunnya, dengan adanya biodisel dari minyak biji karet dapat mengurangi 1% konsumsi BBM masyarakat Indonesia tiap tahunnya jika diolah dengan optimal dan dapat mengurangi ketergantungan masyarakat terhadap bahan bakar fosil.
