Abstract

Improving feed nutritional quality through Spirulina sp. supplementation may support the development of reproductive tract morphometry in pengging ducks (Anas platyrhynchos). This study aimed to evaluate the effects of Spirulina sp. powder supplementation on oviduct weight and the lengths of reproductive tract segments, including the infundibulum, magnum, isthmus, uterus, and vagina. The experiment was conducted using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with six treatments: P0 (100% basal diet), P1 (98.5% basal diet + 1.5% Spirulina sp. powder), P2 (97.0% + 3.0%), P3 (95.5% + 4.5%), P4 (94.0% + 6.0%), and P5 (92.5% + 7.5%). Each treatment was replicated four times. Feed was provided ad libitum twice daily. Data were analyzed using one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) at a 5% significance level. The results indicated that Spirulina sp. supplementation significantly affected (P < 0.05) oviduct weight, magnum length, and isthmus length, but had no significant effect (P > 0.05) on infundibulum, uterus, and vagina lengths. The highest morphometric values were observed in treatment P4 (6% supplementation), yielding an oviduct weight of 104.89 ± 3.13 g, magnum length of 250.00 ± 0.00 mm, and isthmus length of 117.95 ± 31.18 mm, which differed significantly (P < 0.05) from treatments P1, P2, and P3. In conclusion, dietary supplementation with 6% Spirulina sp. powder is the optimal level to support functional oviduct growth. Future research should investigate circulating estradiol and progesterone levels, tubular gland histomorphometry, and longitudinal egg laying performance.
