Abstract

Vaginal candidiasis can alter the vaginal microenvironment, potentially disrupting spermatozoa function. This study aimed to analyze the survival of spermatozoa motility and persistence in the vagina of rats with candidiasis. An experimental study was conducted using two groups of female rats: a normal group and a candidiasis group. Survival analysis was performed using the Kaplan–Meier method, and differences between groups were evaluated with the log-rank test. The results showed a significant difference in spermatozoa motility survival between groups (χ²=8.760; p=0.003). In the candidiasis group, 50% of spermatozoa lost motility within the first minute, while in the normal group, this occurred within the first 2 minutes. Persistence analysis also revealed a significant difference (χ²=15.373; p<0.001). In the candidiasis group, 50% of spermatozoa were no longer detected within the first 2 days, whereas in the normal group, spermatozoa were still observed up to 5 days. These findings indicate that vaginal candidiasis significantly reduces survival of spermatozoa motility and persistence, which may contribute to decreased fertility.
