Abstract

[Title: Digital curation: definition, problems statement, objectives, and case study on library and archives] Digital curation is a relatively new field that has been growing rapidly and attracting a lot of attention recently. Its field requires various resources to develop technological infrastructure, train information professionals to overcome challenges, and develop policies related to digital curation. Unfortunately, curation is often considered a complementary or additional activity, not as an integral part of knowledge production. Some organization even carry out curation without realizing it and have not explicitly labeled their actions. There are no clear policies on curation, which also poses a challenge. The aim of the study is to understand the definition of digital curation, the problem statement of digital curation, the objective of digital curation, and a case study of digital curation in libraries and archives. A qualitative approach and a literature review were conducted. The literature was obtained from databases, journals, and websites. The findings show that digital curation is the process of archiving, preserving, and adding value to digital archives throughout their life cycle. It's managed for long-term preservation. The digital curation requires collaboration from various parties, including librarians, information professionals, lecturers, and researchers. Digital curation aims to ensure that the information owned by an organization is created, managed, and maintained properly. So, the community can access information at any time and in accordance with its needs. The curation produces new information and knowledge. It's also used to promote existing content. Therefore, organizations such as libraries, archives, universities, and government institutions need to readiness, implement and promote digital curation.
