Abstract

[Professional Ethics and Working Hours in Academic Libraries: A Case Study at Semarang Maritime Polytechnic] This study examines the standards of professional ethics in setting working hours to ensure service quality at the Library and Publishing Unit of the Semarang Maritime Polytechnic. This study highlights issues of discipline, time management, and professional behavior among librarians, which directly affect the effectiveness of library services. Using qualitative descriptive methods, this study included interviews, observations, and document analysis involving five librarians at the institution. The research findings indicate that compliance with the Asta Etika Pustakawan, as outlined by the Indonesian Librarian Association, has generally been enforced, but challenges remain due to limited tolerance and staff shortages. Integration of moral obligations (deontological ethics) into daily routines was found to improve service delivery, professional integrity, and user satisfaction. This study offers practical insights to strengthen library governance through ethical compliance and structured working hours, which contribute to a broader discussion on professional ethics.

Abstrak

Penelitian ini mengkaji penerapan etika profesi dalam pengaturan jam kerja untuk menjamin mutu layanan di Unit Perpustakaan dan Penerbitan Politeknik Ilmu Pelayaran Semarang. Penelitian ini menyoroti masalah kedisiplinan, manajemen waktu, dan perilaku profesional di kalangan pustakawan, yang secara langsung memengaruhi efektivitas layanan perpustakaan. Dengan menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif, penelitian ini melibatkan wawancara, observasi, dan analisis dokumen yang melibatkan lima pustakawan di lembaga tersebut. Temuan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kepatuhan terhadap Asta Etika Pustakawan, sebagaimana yang digariskan oleh Ikatan Pustakawan Indonesia, secara umum telah ditegakkan, namun tantangan tetap ada karena keterlambatan birokrasi dan kurangnya staf. Integrasi kewajiban moral (etika deontologis) dalam rutinitas sehari-hari ditemukan dapat meningkatkan pemberian layanan, integritas profesional, dan kepuasan pengguna. Penelitian ini menawarkan wawasan praktis untuk memperkuat tata kelola perpustakaan melalui kepatuhan etika dan jam kerja yang terstruktur, yang berkontribusi pada diskusi yang lebih luas tentang etika profesi.
