Abstract

Embracing technologies and sustainable practices can lead to a competitive edge in horticulture. One of them is the use of greenhouses for premium horticultural cultivation. A business model is essential to highlight the competitiveness and sustainability of businesses. This study aimed to design a Business Model Canvas (BMC) of greenhouse-based premium horticulture business planning. The study starts from June–December 2024. It was conducted in six provinces on Java Island. There are thirty informants. Primary data was collected through questionnaires, in-depth interviews, observations, and focus group discussions. Secondary data is obtained from various sources of literature and company documentation. Data was analyzed according to BMC. Results of business model plan design are as follows: 1) customer segment consists of premium fruit supliers, open farm visitors, individual buyers 2) value proportion is less pesticide, uniformity of product quality, exclusive physical appearance, fruit sweetness, freshness, unique experience, modern farming, and experiential learning 3) channels are carried out directly, indirectly and also by social media 4) customer relationships design through personal assistance, self-service 5) revenue streams are obtained from product saling, open farms, and courses/training 6) key resources include physical greenhouse, knowledge, finance, hydroponic and automation technology, skilled labor 7) key activities planned are melon cultivation, marketing, agri-tourism, modern cultivation training, and internship 8) key partnerships established for off-takers, modern markets, production input distributor 9) cost structure consists of investment costs for construction and operational costs.
